## How we work out the engagement rate.

`Engagement rate = average (likes + comments) per post ÷ followers × 100`

Engagement rate compares likes and comments with the follower count. People who do not follow the account can also like and comment. We add the likes and comments for each of the latest 12 posts. We average those totals, divide by the follower count, then multiply by 100.

Say an account has 10,000 followers and its posts get 300 likes and 20 comments on average. That is 320 divided by 10,000, times 100, which is 3.2%.

Some accounts hide their like counts. We leave those posts out, so they do not pull the average down. If no post shows its likes, we do not show a rate.

## Questions

### What is a good Instagram engagement rate?

It depends on the account. Compare accounts with similar follower counts that post about the same topic. You can check a few here.

### Why is my number different on other sites?

Other tools may count more posts, add saves or views, or divide by reach instead of followers. We use likes and comments on the latest 12 posts divided by followers, so you can check the math yourself.

### Does the account owner see that I checked?

No. We only read numbers that anyone can see on the public profile. The owner is not told.

### How fresh are the numbers?

We read each account live at most once a day. If someone checked it in the last 24 hours, you see that answer. The time of the check is shown under the numbers.
