# Check any Instagram follower count.

Type a public Instagram handle to see the exact number of followers, how many accounts it follows, and how many posts it has.

Use it at https://openhandle.dev/tools/instagram-follower-count. It is free and needs no account.

## Where the numbers come from.

`Engagement rate = average (likes + comments) per post ÷ followers × 100`

We read the public profile, so you see the same numbers Instagram shows on the account page. The app rounds big numbers, like 1.2M. We show the full count.

We also use the latest 12 posts to calculate engagement rate. This compares average likes and comments with the follower count.

## The API requests behind it

```bash
curl "https://api.openhandle.dev/v1/instagram/profiles/@username" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OPENHANDLE_API_KEY"
curl "https://api.openhandle.dev/v1/instagram/profiles/@username/posts?limit=12" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OPENHANDLE_API_KEY"
```

Get profile and post data through the API. New accounts get 100 free requests: https://app.openhandle.dev/signup

## Questions

### Is the follower count live?

We read each account live at most once a day. If someone checked it in the last 24 hours, you see that answer. The time of the check is shown under the numbers.

### Can I see who follows an account?

Not with this tool. The Openhandle API has a followers endpoint that lists the public followers of an account, one page at a time.

### Does the account owner see that I checked?

No. We only read numbers that anyone can see on the public profile. The owner is not told.

### Can I check a private account?

No. This tool cannot measure private accounts. It tells you when an account is private.
